Imagine New Mexico Launches Bold Initiative to Tackle State’s Toughest Challenges

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — A powerhouse coalition of New Mexico’s most accomplished leaders has come together to launch Imagine New Mexico, a groundbreaking nonprofit committed to delivering measurable progress on five of the state’s most urgent issues: healthcare, education, economic growth, poverty reduction, and public safety.

The founding team includes a who’s who of state leadership:

  • Steve Moise, former New Mexico State Investment Officer
  • Mark Benak, former CEO of Asset Performance Technologies and Chair of the Sandia
    Foundation
  • Doug Brown, former State Treasurer and UNM Board of Regents Chair
  • Notah Begay III, PGA Tour alum and founder of the Notah Begay III Foundation
  • Christina Campos, longtime rural hospital administrator and UNM Regent
  • Alicia Keyes, former Cabinet Secretary of Economic Development and founder of Apaluma

A New Model for Change: Results, Not Rhetoric

Imagine New Mexico uses a data-based model:

  • Collaboration is rewarded. Nonprofits must work together to meet clearly defined goals.
  • Data drives decisions. A public dashboard—developed in partnership with UNM’s Prevention Research Center—will track real-time progress against New Mexico and national benchmarks.
  • Results earn resources. Nonprofits that move the needle will receive funding to grow their impact.

“For decades, New Mexico has tried to solve complex problems in silos,” said Steve Moise. “Imagine New Mexico breaks down those silos by aligning missions, measuring outcomes, and rewarding progress.”

First Focus: Healthcare Access for All

The organization’s first major initiative targets one of New Mexico’s most critical needs: Improving healthcare by attracting and retaining healthcare professionals. The goal is to close healthcare gaps that have long plagued New Mexico.

“This isn’t just a one-time campaign—it’s a long-term commitment,” Moise said. “We’re building a system where success is not just expected, but achieved and measurable.”
